The origin of National Pug Day traces back to 2012 when animal advocate and pet enthusiast, Colleen Paige, decided to designate a unique day for this adorable breed, in hopes of inspiring people to adopt pugs from shelters and rescues. It's a day when pug owners and enthusiasts alike celebrate the breed's intrinsic qualities, like its distinctive appearance with a wrinkled, short-muzzled face and curly tail, its adaptable and sociable personality, and its reference in popular culture such as Men in Black and The Adventures of Milo and Otis.

National Pug Day, primarily celebrated in the United States, but also acknowledged by pug lovers around the globe, has grown over the years into a much-anticipated observance. Various events such as pug parades, costume competitions, and adoption events are held across many cities. This distinctive day is celebrated annually on October 15.
